Sauna Buying Guide
How to choose a home sauna: indoor or outdoor, traditional or infrared, which Harvia heater and controls to specify, what size you need and how to prepare your site.
FAQs
A spare room, a big bathroom, a garage, a basement or a utility room. You need a level floor, headroom above 79 in and a power supply. No plumbing, no drainage, nothing to dig.
For a traditional sauna, yes. The Harvia heater runs at 6 or 9 kW and has to be hardwired. For an infrared sauna, no. It plugs into a standard household outlet, and your dealer will confirm the supply your model needs.
Some. Infrared barely raises humidity, so an ordinary room is fine. A traditional sauna pushes out warm, moist air when you open the door, so an airbrick, a window or an extractor in the room keeps the space fresh and the walls dry.
Traditional if you want 70 to 90°C and the löyly steam. Infrared if you want gentler heat at 45 to 60°C, a 15 minute warm-up and no electrical work. Our comparison guide goes deeper, and a showroom lets you feel both.
The cabins are quick-build kits and most go up in a few hours with two people. Traditional models then need the electrician's visit before first use. Infrared is ready as soon as it is plugged in.
Prices in your market are set by your nearest Hekla dealer, who quotes for the cabin, the heater and delivery together. Find your nearest showroom for a current price. Our cost guide sets our saunas against the wider market.
